Morrigan
Character Information
Portrayed by Genevieve Padalecki
Name: Morrigan Urquart
Aliases: Morri
Birthday: September 15th, 1919
Position: Werewolf Capture Unit
Lineage: Pure-blood

Description

Despite the natural wave in her hair making it somewhat difficult to maintain neatly, Morri's thick, dark mop crowns the girlish features of her face. Her big, dark eyes and fine-boned nose well-balanced, though her mouth may be a touch too big. Morrigan's skintone is naturally pale but she has a light tan, though not without its blemishes - beyond her freckles, she's got her fair share of scars and imperfections, both visible and hidden beneath her clothing. She has a pleasant plumpness to her otherwise athletic figure, a little weight which softens her hips and belly and thickens her thighs, adding pleasing curves to her womanly form.

Background

Gaelic blood ran as true as her pureblood heritage through Morrigan's veins when she was born on a September morning on the isle of Jura, Scotland, to Alasdair Urquart and his wife, Sorcha, of Ireland's Merrythought family. She was their first child, followed four years later by a younger brother, Finn. Growing up on such a bleak island might have been lonely for some, but the truth was far from it for Morrigan, who found herself drawn to and fascinated by the creatures her parents, as employees of the RCMC Beast Division, cared for on their wild Scottish land - a herd of Aethonan winged horses. Her upbringing was relatively free, as she was encouraged to explore the boggy lands of Jura, to read and draw and learn from nature as she would.

In 1929, Morrigan began her Hogwarts career. It was unsurprising that she was sorted into Ravenclaw, as so many on the Urquart side of her family had been in times both recent and past - though her Gryffindor mother had hoped her daughter would have been sorted into her House. She proved to be a competent, if easily distracted student; Morrigan knew from an early age where she wanted life to take her, and that often led to her focusing on certain aspects of school life more than others. Care of Magical Creatures, for example, was her be-all subject, even though she had a strong affinity for Potions, Herbology, and even somewhat for Charms and Transfiguration. Divination she took simply because it seemed like something she could breeze through. The latter three subjects she left behind after earning herself two Exceeds Expectations grades in her O.W.L. exams, and an Outstanding for Divination… but that wasn't really something she was proud of, given that she'd made up most of what she put in her exam. From her sixth year on, Morrigan poured most of her energy into Care of Magical Creatures, Potions and Herbology in the lead-up to her N.E.W.T. exams, while still finding time to maintain her position as Beater on Ravenclaw's Quidditch team - something she'd held onto since first earning her place in her third year.

When Morrigan graduated from Hogwarts, it was with a trifecta of Outstandings in her chosen subjects. With her family connections it was easy enough for her to gain a placement in the Ministry of Magic's Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures (R.C.M.C.), where she had apprenticed for the two summers previous. She spent time in various departments trying to fathom where her true calling was; working with dragons with the Dragon Research and Restraint Bureau was a highlight of her early career, and of course she had considerable experience working with the winged horses that her parents cared for, which she dabbled in a bit more with the Preservation of Winged Equine Bloodlines Department. Morrigan spent a full year with the National Research and Census of Magical Creatures Division, researching and studying the unicorn herd that called Hogwarts' Forbidden Forest home, before stumbling, quite accidentally, onto an unexpected interest in a branch of the R.C.M.C. that she hadn't even considered - the Werewolf Capture Unit. That was just after her 22nd birthday, and Morrigan has since found herself increasingly fascinated by werewolves… not least of all by the thrill of the occasional full moon hunt when one becomes a danger to society. Although she developed a reputation for being quite sympathetic during the waxing and waning phases of the moon, so far at least, it hasn't effected her work with the Unit; she's demonstrated that she's still prepared to take a werewolf down, if needed.

RP Hooks

  • Animal Lover: Any talk of magical creatures is bound to pique Morrigan's interest. Whether it's light conversation, a serious debate on whether Aethonans or Granians are the better riding equines, or swapping stories about pets, she'll be keen to participate.
  • Home Remedies: Morrigan has always had an interest in experimenting with things, from mudpies and biscuit flavours as a child, to remedies drawn from her knowledge of potions and herbology as an adult. She can whip up most home remedies in a jiffy, and is happy to be a go-to for friends and acquaintances looking for a quick fix at a bargain price.
  • Alternative Views: She may work with the Werewolf Capture Unit, but Morrigan has a view on werewolves that conflicts with the commonly-held perceptions: she is sympathetic of their plight, and has, on a handful of occasions, spoken out loud about her feelings. Her attitude is that so long as they're not harming anyone, they shouldn't be ostracised for being victim to circumstances that were beyond their control - and she's happy to debate her position with whoever might challenge it.

Quirks

  • Intuitive: She's certainly no Seer, but Morrigan does seem to understand situations and their outcomes, as well as how people and animals, in particular, may react.
  • Animal Lover: A sure-fire way to get on her side is to strike up a conversation about creatures of all kinds, magical or not.
  • Wealth: Comfortable: Her parents' families have the dosh; she lives mostly on her Ministry salary. It's enough to get by in a modest fashion.
  • Lucky Charm: Morri has a habit of landing on her feet. Perhaps it's because of her intuition or maybe she was just born lucky.
  • Silver Tongue: Ever since she was little, Morri has been a storyteller. Whether that's extending the truth or being entirely fanciful, she's good with words, using them to tell stories and half-truths alike.

Relationships

NoImage_icon.jpg

Alasdair Urquart
Father: (b. 1892) Pureblood. Morrigan and her father have always been able to connect through their love of magical creatures. He taught her from her childhood how to understand and respect them, especially Aethonons, and now that Morrigan has followed in her parents' footsteps by joining the R.C.M.C. their bond remains close.

Sorcha Urquart nee Merrythought
Mother: (b. 1896) Pureblood. Although Morrigan and Sorcha have had a somewhat strained relationship since Morri hit her teens, they still have moments of closeness. That said, though, they aren't likely to seek one another's company all that often, as more often than not putting the two of them into the same room will end in one upsetting the other… sometimes over the most trivial matters.

Finn Urquart
Brother: (b. 1924) Pureblood. As children Morrigan was protective of her younger brother, but now that they're older - and he's grown taller than her - the tables seem to have turned as he'll often stand up for her. Not that she needs it, of course, which he understands, but they share a strong bond and are friends… even when sibling rivalry causes them to fall out.
