Description
Standing at four feet and eight inches Adorabella is a slip of a girl that doesn't tend to easily draw the eye. Her hair, while reaching halfway down her spine when it isn't curling up to bounce about her shoulders, is a ruddy brown that matches the color of those large doe eyes of hers. A cute little button nose, expressive lips and a dainty chin round out her face, though one can see the suggestion of an old scar there on the latter with the general moonkissed nature of her complexion.
Her posture, like her eyes, tends to reveal her mood. Whether tall and proud or meek and turned in on itself; Dora's figure is forever lithe. A composition of sharp angles and soft curves, with long coltish legs in harmony with her height. There are often little scratches on her person or bumps and bruises. Always just a little bit of dirt beneath her nails and that's fine. It wouldn't be Dora otherwise.
At the moment Adorabella is wearing a Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry uniform. Rather notable by the yellow and black colouring she must have sorted into House Hufflepuff. A grey vest edged in yellow and black covers a crisp white Oxford shirt, buttoned from the belt-line to the collar and accented with a yellow tie with narrow black stripes. The shirt is tucked neatly into matching grey pleated skirt. Skirt and stockings meet at the knees, and black shoes are worn on the feet. Over all of this flows a voluminous black robe lined in soft Hufflepuff Yellow fabric, unadorned except for a black badger standing rampant over a yellow background with black 'ermine tufts' sewn over the heart.
Background
O, what a wicked web we weave. And when it comes to purebred genealogy this applies twice as firmly in the case of Ishram Cuthber Selwyn's family. The middle child, Adorabella Rochelle Selwyn shares a mother -Olivia Rochelle Selwyn nee Umbridge- with her younger twin brothers, Leoric Julian and Elric Alan Selwyn. While the eldest being their brother and the patriarch of the family, Ulysses Isram Selwyn, was born to Eloise Meredith Selwyn nee Urquart. Of their parents, only Olivia still lives, with Eloise's death just one year into Ulysses' young life, and Ishram's demise in a questionable potions accident some three years back left their brother the inheritor of the estate. A gentlel tender hearted spirit, Dora is the balance keeping their family happy and content.
Dora failed to follow in her older brother's footsteps with her sorting at Hogwarts, however. A Hufflepuff it seemed to suit her people pleasing nature and timid ways. The early years were spent deep in the books, with little time for socializing, her friends were screened selectively by her older brother when she was allowed them and his driven nature was pushed off onto his sister, urging her to succeed. By her third year, Adorabella fell in love with electives. Care of Magical Creatures, Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, they were all ways to further expand her mind and provided further creative outlets for her forays in the Art Club.
The death of their father, a man who had never been particularly kind and seemed to suspect that she may have been the 'love child' of another in his carefully arranged marriage left her with mixed feelings. Relief and regret. Her mother remaining close lipped about the truth of such speculation, in fact, remaining entirely aloof. The question was forgotten later as some of Ulysses ambition must have rubbed off however or perhaps it was simply the constant time she spent chasing after her younger brothers to mend their hurts, but after finishing with her OWLs Dora officially decided to follow a career as a Healer, carefully juggling the five required NEWTs for the task as well as three electives.
Quirks
- Accident Prone
- Dora's often got a bump, a bruise, a cut or a scrape. Be it simply from her distracted nature and hip-checking one too many corners from not paying attention or that warning that always seems to herald disaster. 'Hey! Be careful with that.' She tries, but…it doesn't always seem to work.
- Tender Hearted
- Dora is not just a tender heart, she's a bleeding heart. Particularly for animals. Strays will always find a home with her, whether Ulysses says it's alright or not and more than once, this has gotten her into trouble. It doesn't stop her, but it's gotten her in to trouble and it doesn't apply just to animals. It applies to people to. She's always willing to believe the best out of everyone, regardless of what the evidence might stack up to look like. And she will go out of her way to try and help make someone else's day brighter.
- Naive
- Dora is remarkably naive, in every possible respect. A lot of this has to do with the fact that she seems to live inside her head a lot. A romantic's heart, with a dreamer's mind and coupled with her tendency to be tender hearted, it makes her a likely person to befriend even the strangest of souls, while at the same time, inclined to believe whatever story she's heard and that? Well it often leads to her being the victim.
- Photophile
- An avid collector of photographs, Dora loves her camera and has, since an early age. It's not strange to see her out shooting photographs of nature, animals or simply other people, if fancy strikes and it also means that she's got a rather large collection of what she considers her favorites. Perhaps she's bored you with it over the years.
- Wealth: Well-To-Do
- As of 1.26.1939 Dora received control of her own funds. It's been a startling and somewhat freeing revelation and one for which, oddly enough, she has her mother to thank.
Wand
11 Inches inches, Rosewood, Pliant, with a Unicorn Hair core.
Pet
Mister Penseverus Bubbles the Third. So named for his penchant of blowing bubbles when he croaks and having only three legs. He's also got a history of peeing on anyone who happens to pick him up against his will.
RP Hooks
- Classes & Clubs
- NEWTs: Potions, Transfiguration, Herbology, Charms, and Defense Against the Dark Arts
- Electives: Ancient Runes, Care of Magical Creatures and Arithmancy
- Clubs: Art, Domestics
- Book Club
- An accident, honestly. One minute she was sitting there listening to everyone talk about their enjoyment of books and the next, she was suggesting they unify their enjoyment beneath the banner of a club. She's still a little mystified and surprised by the whole thing and the interest, but determined to go good, by her friends.
- Career Path - Healer
- While the Selwyn's are often known for their artistic endeavors, Dora's intent on making a healer out of herself, no matter what the cost and as such, the girl seems particularly driven. Has she tried to 'doctor' you over the years? Or perhaps you've an interest in the same career?
- Quirky
- Shortening names. Dora tends to forget to use last names, that sounds so impersonal and distant and cold. With those for whom she finds some kinship or desire to help, first names quickly become shorted into her own little endearments.
- Dora hums under her breath, all the time. To the point that she doesn't seem to realize she's doing it until someone points it out to her and even when she makes an active effort to stop, she's soon doing it again.
- Dora also….tends to talk to her animals and sometimes inanimate objects as if they were people too. And uninterrupted can hold entire conversations without ever seeming to realize the strangeness.
- Songstress
- While it's not something she'd intentionally take public acclaim for, Dora does have a rather remarkable voice and has been known to take the occasional role in the choir with a very gentle lilting soprano.
- Prone to Apologizing
- With a sometime grouchy older sibling and twin younger brothers who are fond of their occasional pranks and attention, not to mention her critters, Dora's prone to apologizing for whatever mishap has upset someone's day. Even if none of her own little family are responsible for it.
- Issues of the Blood
- Dora is not a purist. She does not subscribe to Grindelwald nor does she adhere to the Unity Party. Her personal preference adheres more to that of the Preservation Society. And while the girl doesn't often speak of, the use of foul language and in particular the term 'mudblood' in her presence is a surefire way to make her frown in disappointment.

Ishram Cuthbert Selwyn
Assumed Father, Deceased
Pure-Blood
I don't…understand. I don't know why I wasn't good enough or smart enough or worthy of his attention. I don't know why he wouldn't look at me, the same way that he looked at them. The same way he loved them. I just remember when he'd grab my chin and search my eyes and stalk away. It always felt like he was looking for a little bit of himself somewhere there in their depths. I guess he didn't find it.

Olivia Rochelle Selwyn (neé Umbridge)
Mother
Pure-Blood
But where Papa seemed to struggle to find any of himself in my eyes, Mama saw enough and I remember her sweetness in my youth. The way she'd dote and care. The way I mattered. Her only little girl. Her princess. And then he died. He died and her attention went somewhere else. Somewhere that wasn't on me, on my brothers. On any of us. I hope I never seem so empty and vacant as her.

Ulysses
Older Brother
Gryffindor
Pure-Blood
Uly's intense. I think Papa's death has hit him the hardest and I don't want to imagine what it must be like, because I know that he'd already lost his mother. But he stands so proud though. So tall. So protective sometimes he seems almost mean and equally as sweet and caring. I think he tries to control everything now to keep from losing anyone else. Instead we have lost him. He promised, he promised forever that he'd stay or take me with him when he left and now? Now we all suffer his loss. I hope he finds whatever it was he's seeking.

Leoric
Brother
Hufflepuff
Pure-Blood
Of the twins, Leoric is perhaps the most quiet and as a result, the one that Dora most closely identifies with and yet doesn't in equal measure, though Elric's playful spirit does draw a measure of her warmth when she's in the mood. Though Leoric's quiet nature in turn often leaves Dora worrying that he should sometimes censor a little more of what comes out of his mouth.

 |
Elric
Brother
Hufflepuff
Pure-Blood
His easy going nature makes it possible for Dora to relax, while it further goes to bring out her mothering side. There's little she wouldn't do for her family after all, though she worries more now, after the incident with Alphard than she did before.

Tarquin
First Cousin
Hufflepuff
Pure-Blood
Tartar is…a little like Uly, if Uly were a Hufflepuff and wasn't always sometimes grouchy. But he's sweet and he's protective and he helps me study, which is more than some cousin's do for others truth be told. Really, not everyone's lucky enough to have more than one person who'll read them to sleep. Not everyone's lucky enough to have cousins who disappear along with brothers, either. Why must they always leave?

Ilsa
Third Cousin

Pure-Blood
Cousin Ilsa is such a free spirit. I admire her bravery and her sense of adventure and the way she speaks her mind, though…perhaps I wonder that some things shouldn't be said. But she's strong. Strong in ways I can't be and yet still can't help but admire. She's got such wonderful dreams too, dangerous dreams. One more reason to make sure I can finish to become a healer, so I can always help take care of her. She's going to make a wonderful Auror.

Alaric
Favorite Uncle
Ravenclaw
Pure-Blood
Whilst her heart quite literally bleeds for her Uncle, he's also by far and away one of Dora's favorite uncles and the one that she reckons needs the most help. It's hard though, to help someone that she worries doesn't want it and for all that his mother writes and she writes back, it often feels like the two are simply keeping in touch to check up on the same person. He's one of the leading influences as well, in her career decision, both because of what he does but also, like her mother - he's one of the closest that she wants to save. And another of those she couldn't. May you be safe where ever you are.

Beatryce Bulstrode (neé Selwyn)
Aunt — Mother to Tarquin.
She writes me sometimes, or well, often honestly. And mostly she just asks about Tarquin, but I think that a little bit of it might simply be that she's trying to make sure we're all still okay.

First Cousin — Brother to Tarquin.

Brendlyn Summerbree nee Selwyn
Third Cousin
Ravenclaw
Pure-Blood
Cousin Brendlyn's a wonderful woman, for all that she's somewhat older than me. I can remember her coming by to check on Momma often enough and she still does, when she can get away. Honestly I think she just does it out of memory to Papa. But she's a healer and she gives me tips on where I most need to focus, so that I can do the same thing.

Friend
Pure-Blood
There's a sadness in him. A pain. I think it comes from the terrible thing that was done to him over the holidays, mostly. But I get the impression that it comes from somewhere else, too. I'd like to help him. To return his joy and hear the life touch on his music that it once held. One black night does not a lifetime of darkness make. I got to hear him play again! And there was such joy in his music!

Madeline
First Year
Muggle-Born
And one of the sweetest girls that Dora has ever met. There's something about her wide eyed delight and innocence that's both refreshing and easily to identify with. Perhaps because it's the same wonder that Dora herself still holds with the world and while her first run in with the little Gryffindor was at the request for a pair of pretty antlers, Dora's fast finding a growing softspot as far as the girl is concerned.

Adam
Acquaintance
Muggle-Born
He's an easily excitable if remarkably sweet young boy and it is one of my dearest hopes that my younger brothers will help him with his flying. Though one can not fault him at all for his aspirations. It's a wonderful thing, to see such in today's youth and more, he doesn't seem to care what the blood of others happens to be.
|
 |
Bran
Acquaintance
Muggle-Born
Bran is a quiet sweet boy, with a similar interest in photography and! He gets to live on a farm. There's so many things that Dora would like to pick his brain about, as well as thank him for, given the last meeting of the Art Club. Yet, the homesickness in him worries Dora and it's put him on her radar for people to attempt to help cheer up, on occasion, just so they don't think they're alone.

Myrus
Associate
Pure-Blood
He's…I'm not sure. I met this boy on a very bad day. A very sad day for him, I think and goodness knows I'm not sure that he appreciates hugs but I'm going to chalk that up to him not having a good day. And hopefully, hopefully one day he'll get over his sadness and learn to smile again and if I could help, that would be wonderful.

Lucretia
Third Year
Pure-Blood
Certainly a well mannered young girl and one that Leoric seems to find a sense of companionship with. Dora herself can find no fault with her manners, only with the occasional use of the girl's tongue. But there is hope and kindness to be found in everyone and Dora may harbor some small hope that she can eventually sway the girl's ideals.

Alphard
Misunderstood
Pure-Born
I have never met anyone like Alphard and it would be a lie to say that he doesn't intimidate me, to pieces. To absolute pieces. I don't know if he's just angry to be angry or if it's because he's sad. He strikes me as the sort of person who could use a hug but he reacts so…violently! Everyone's warned me away from him but…surely he's not as bad as everyone thinks he is, right? Wrong. He has to have some redeeming qualities, I just, I haven't seen them yet is all.

I've never met anyone famous before, not ever and yet, when I finally got to meet this man he was so nice! You never think the famous ones will be nice, even if you hope everyone will be nice. He's so smart and as engaging in person as he is on the page. Kind enough to tolerate my fumbles and my butchering of his name.
