Background
Matthew Bobbin moved from his parent's family apothecary shop in Liverpool to the city of Inverness in 1917, setting out to open up a new business in his family's wide chain. There, he met Rosie Glen, a Muggle-born witch who he wed in 1922. Bethney Bobbin was her family's only child, born on October 29th, 1924, to a comfortable climate of wealth provided by her family's business. Matthew and Rosie took great strides to involve her in the everyday maintenance of the shop from a young age, a practice which they believed would breed discipline into their child. From this involvement, Bethney's interest in herbs and potions was sparked, an interest that would go on to define her later studies. While working and maintaining the shop, Bethney took a vested interest in not only potions and herbs, but the conversations and gossip of their patrons, listening in on them from the various nooks and crannies of the business. Occasionally, to her parent's great confusion, she would even join the conversations to ask questions.
In 1935, Bethney was sent to Hogwarts for her first year. Since both her father and mother had been Ravenclaw, it seemed an obvious choice to place here there as well. However, when the Sorting Hat was placed on her head, she was put into Hufflepuff. It was a decent fit, as she did enjoy talking to people and learning about them. Yet, as she talked with more people, the less interesting her life seemed. Her interest in the stories of passersby and fellow students who she barely knew was a nagging one, and so it wasn't long until she developed a reputation of nosiness. In light of this, Bethney soon began to make up her own stories to share, despite being a child of cheer and care. She ended up in the Books Club, taking interest in both literature by adventure novels at first, and then more intellectual pieces as she matured. As she read more and more, she realized that she could write these sorts of things herself, and did so, though she rarely shared it with people other than herself. Next to books, she began to take a mild interest in dueling. The next logical step was the Duelling Club, where she was not particularly good, but was by no means a bad duelist.
Her mother and father had prepared her for Potions and Herbology quite well, allowing her to pass her OWLs in these subjects with flying colors, and mostly average scores in others. Out of equal parts of pressure from and respect for her parents, she took Potions and Herbology for her NEWTs despite her growing interest in writing, which would eventually begin urging her towards journalism. She began looking for an internship at the Daily Prophet, and before she has even secured one, she dreams up plans for a school newspaper for students at Hogwarts. It didn't bother her to spend a little more time in Hogwarts, as she did like it there, and the promise of a back-up plan if her writing abilities failed her was something she couldn't turn down.
