Character Information
Portrayed by Robin Wright
Name: Desdemonia Malfoy
Aliases: Des
Birthday: 11 July, 1880
Position: Obliviator
Lineage: Pure-blood

Description

An elegant, ageless beauty. Though already a grandmother, Desdemonia Malfoy appears young and beautiful as ever. Slightly taller than most witches, she stands slender and graceful. A hint of rose in her cheeks warms her otherwise fair complexion. Her clear blue eyes are by far the most gentle of the Malfoy clan. Her soft, full lips often curve in a tender smile. Her hair falls well past her shoulders in long, flowing locks of gold, darker than the usual platinum blonde of her husband and children.

Depending on the occasion, she favors elegant dresses of classic, timeless witch's fashion. Silks and velvets, the color of a clear winter sky, bring out the color of her eyes. Upon her left ring finger, her wedding ring glitters, gold filigree inlaid with delicate emeralds and diamonds. The delicate heels of her shoes add an inch to her height.

Background

Desdemonia Nott had always shown promise in the realm of charms sometimes archaically referred to as "glamers," the magic of the mind. When she graduated with top marks, she was a natural fit for the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes, as an Obliviator. Her keen intuition into how others' minds worked made her Memory Charms that much more convincing and lasting, as she had an excellent sense of what needed to be removed or altered, and how.

After several years on the job, she found herself frequently called to St. Mungo's to assist with victims of memory loss, particularly when those victims were part of some ongoing Ministry investigation. During her visits, she caught the attention of one Healer Balaurius Malfoy. The two began courting, and two years later, were married.

Though she continues her work as an Obliviator, Desdemonia's focus has largely been on her family. The mother of four children, she has had her hands full. But she has never been one to settle for anything less than excellence. It is a quality she has tried to instill in her children, always insisting that they have a birthright of greatness, but it is up to them to grasp it and live up to their name.

Relationships

Balaurius

Balaurius
Husband: Desdemonia loves her husband dearly, flaws and all. She knows he can be a stubborn, proud, stern man. But those same personalty traits that make him a determined, dignified, devoted husband and father.

Edwarlinda

Edwarlinda
First Child: Though she disapproves of quite a bit of Edwarlinda's behaviour, Desdemonia couldn't be prouder of her first-born's accomplishments. Becoming an Auror is no mean feat. The unexpected pregnancy was troubling, but Desdemonia was not about to turn her child away. She intends to make the best of things, and see that her first grandchild is raised like a proper Malfoy.

Cyril

Cyril
Second Child: The second child, and her first son. Desdemonia doted upon Cyril, seeing so much of his father in him. She expected greatness from him, and never failed to express it to him. She sees now that she may have inflated his ego a bit overmuch. When Cyril is away on his adventures, there is a part of Desdemonia that goes with him. She would never say it aloud, but in her heart, he is her favourite.

Cassius

Cassius
Third Child: To an outsider's perspective, Cassius and his mother had a distant relationship as he grew up. The truth is, they were closer than anyone realized, in their own way. Cassius was never particularly affectionate as a child, and was quite prone to saying only what was necessary to get what he wanted. But Desdemonia could see through his game, as she was quite the master of it. But she did not chide him for his manipulative ways. Rather, she played the game with him, and defeated him often enough to demonstrate how to improve his social technique. By never publicly shaming him for his machinations, she encouraged him to grow into his strength, and taught him in her own, subtle way.

Medusa

Medusa
Fourth Child: The baby, and perhaps Desdemonia has had a difficult time thinking of her as anything different. Medusa was in her own world for so long, it made it easy to coddle her. Only recently has her youngest daughter started challenging herself. She fears for her little princess, seeing her quickly biting off more than she can chew. But her hands are full keeping the peace between Medusa and Balaurius, whose disappointment is boiling over of late.

Enceladus

Enceladus
Brother-in-Law: Desdemonia has never gotten along particularly well with her husband's elder brother. They don't fight, but they simply lack anything in common beyond Balaurius himself. Her friendship with Eurydice has only cemented her dislike of Enceladus.

Eurydice

Eurydice
Sister-in-Law: After Eurydice's marriage to Encedalus, Desdemonia was quick to swoop in and become a friend to her, having predicted the difficulties the young woman would face long before anyone else. The two have become trusted confidants, though their contact is usually limited to social engagements, as Enceladus does not especially approve of the relationship.

Abraxas

Abraxas
Nephew: Any worries Desdemonia had about spoiling her own children were diminished as Abraxas grew. The boy is simply monstrous, and while she adores his mother, it is clear enough that Eurydice's permissive mothering is largely to blame. But Abraxas learned quickly enough that what is acceptable in his own home can sometimes be met with a stern reprimand in the estate of the London Malfoys.
