Portrayed by Dylan Minnette
Name: Eugene Zacharias Umbridge
Aliases: -
Birthday: January 29th, 1924
Position: Slytherin
Lineage: Pure-blood

A boy, nearly a man, of middling height, a few inches shy of six feet with perfect posture, Eugene carries himself with no small amount of confidence. His figure is lean, with just the suggestion of muscle that comes with a boy growing into a man. Dark brown hair is well-maintained, swept back from his forehead and falling to just brush at his collar. Clear blue eyes look out over soft cheekbones. His complexion is clear, though very fair, the result of a lifetime of UK weather.

At the moment Eugene is wearing a Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry uniform. Rather notable by the green and silver colouring he must have sorted into House Slytherin. A grey vest edged in green and silver covers a crisp white Oxford shirt, buttoned from the belt to the collar and accented with a green tie with narrow silver stripes. The shirt is tucked neatly into matching gray trousers that fall to the tops of black boots, polished to a high shine. Over all of this flows a voluminous black robe lined in soft Slytherin Green fabric, unadorned except for a silver snake slithering over a green background with a silver chevron sewn over the heart.

Born on the 29th of January, 1924 in his family's London townhouse, Eugene Umbridge is the only son and eldest child of Karkus Umbridge and his wife Natalie Burke. His father was an employee with the Accidental Magic Reversal Squad, his mother a translator with the Department of International Cooperation. The pair was comfortable enough for their burgeoning family, if not terribly wealthy. Three years later, his younger sister and only sibling, Dahlia Umbridge, was brought into the world. Both sides of his family being strongly purist, Eugene had little and less to do with Muggles, or even Muggle-born children for that matter, his interactions almost exclusively with other purebloods. The entire time, he was indoctrinated with the importance of purity of blood, and the superiority of magic-kind to Muggles.

His education started with his mother, who quit her job upon Eugene's birth. His father, then, continued working, and as a result was seen little by his wife and children. Wanting her son to show a level of class, Natalie began to teach Eugene to speak French, something that she made sure his eventual tutor would be able to continue in. When Eugene turned 8, his mother brought in the carefully chosen tutor to see to his and Dahlia's education. Once the tutor took over, Natalie returned to her work in the Ministry, leaving Eugene and Dahlia to grow closer than either of them grew to their distant parents. Ballroom dance and the violin were added to Eugene's lessons once his French was passable.

In summer of 1934, Eugene received his Hogwarts acceptance letter; that autumn, Eugene was sorted into Slytherin. His mother insisted Eugene joined the Arts Club. He quickly earned a reputation for bullying Muggle-borns and, on rare occasions, half-bloods. Amusing as this was, it lasted only the first two years before his parents made it clear that such behavior (or getting caught) was unacceptable. When his third year began, Eugene's overt bullying was replaced with cold condescension. This disapproval slowly grew to include a large number of those younger than him, regardless of purity, though leeway was (expectedly) given to Slytherins. Academically, Eugene proved selectively bright. His marks in his electives, Arithmancy and Ancient Runes, were unremarkable, and Herbology, Astronomy, and History of Magic were all but ignored by Eugene. Transfiguration, Charms, and Defense were where he truly applied himself, going on to take N.E.W.T.-level courses. Before they disbanded, Eugene joined the Magijugend. Soon after, he was recruited into the Knights of Walpurgis after showing an interest in 'extracurricular' magic.

RP Hooks

  • Pure-Blood and Proud: Eugene takes blood purity very seriously. Want to argue with him about the matter? Or sit around and talk smack about those of lesser purity? Eugene's your guy.
  • Man of Refinement: At his mother's insistence, Eugene has some more refined hobbies; dance, violin, and working on his French are all pastimes of his that he's probably willing to share with others.

  • Cold and calculating
  • Condescending
  • Quick to anger
  • Proud
  • Wealth: Comfortable

Logs featuring Eugene Logs that refer to Eugene

Karkus Umbridge
Father: (1900 - ?) Pure-Blood Eugene holds the utmost respect for his father, even if the two are rather distant. While the relationship isn't as warm as some may be, there is still some affection there, in addition to the expected obedience of a son to his father.

Natalie Umbridge nee Burke
Mother: (1902- ?) <Pure-Blood Eugene's relationship with his mother is somewhat warmer than what he has with his father, though there's a unique sort of obedience there as he tries to meet her expectations of a certain level of refinement. Eugene's obedience regarding his mother's desire for her children to show some refinement is an act of genuine affection, rather than the sort of obligatory obedience he shows his father.

Dahlia Umbridge
Sister: (1927- ?) Pure-Blood Eugene's younger sister, and by far the closest member of his family, Dahlia was Eugene's first real friend. He is, naturally, quite protective of his younger sister; he doesn't try to actively deter anyone that shows interest in her, but he does make it clear that anyone that hurts her will answer to him.

Peer - Eugene and Oberon are in the same year and House at Hogwarts, so naturally they associate with one another. They seem to share similar outlooks on magic and blood purity, and so Eugene holds Oberon in high regard.

Peer - Eugene and Samira are in the same year and House at Hogwarts. Her foreign ancestry and interesting knowledge base have made her more than interesting to Eugene.

Peer - Riddle is one of the handful that are younger than Eugene but still have earned, not only his tolerance, but his respect. The charismatic young man's ambition has certainly earned Eugene's attention, and so he'll be sure to keep an eye on the younger Slytherin.
