Character Information
Portrayed by Conor Carroll
Name: John Carrow
Aliases: -
Birthday: October 23rd, 1924
Position: Slytherin
Lineage: Pure-Blood

John Carrow stands at five foot eleven inches, somewhat taller than most of the boys his age. He has an athletic build and short, relatively unkempt hair of a light brown color. He is a relatively handsome young man, something he is well aware of and that he uses to his advantage in his dealings with others as he deems necessary. His eyes are a light blue in color, somewhat pale and his time in the sun has not seemed to darken his skin nearly as much as one might expect.

John Carrow was born the first child to Tiberius Carrow III and Florence Greengrass on October 23rd, 1924. Eldest of three children, he often found himself responsible for the care of his younger brother and sister, Grifith and Iris. His father often was consumed with work within the Ministry's department of Magical Law Enforcement and his mother concerned herself more with the goings-on of their peers within society than she did with the care of her children. As a result their family dynamic often swung between highly ordered when Tiberius III was present to lacking almost any order at all when Florence was left in charge. This led to John taking a sort of charge over his siblings and developing something of a paternal instinct, though it also bred a certain stubbornness and defiance of societal norms into him. It was as a result of his father's line of work that he first gained something of an interest in the Dark Arts, though his focus was initially to follow in his father's footsteps.

John began attending Hogwarts in the fall of 1935 and was sorted into Slytherin after little deliberation on the part of the sorting hat. He excelled most in his core coursework, particularly Defense Against the Dark Arts and Potions, though he only achieved average marks in Arithmancy and Care of Magical Creatures. Beyond academics, however, he has taken strides to remain physically fit, participating in both the Broom and Athletics clubs. He also exhibits something of a trouble-making streak, sneaking about the castle after-hours, though he is typically careful enough to avoid being caught and has been able to concoct believable excuses for being out of bounds on those occasions when he has been found out.

RP Hooks

  • At the Edge of the Dark: John has a certain fascination with dark magic, perhaps more than what might be described as scholarly. As of yet it has not been something he has pursued, but the interest (and, perhaps, potential) is definitely there.
  • Purity of Blood: John certainly believes in the importance of Pure-blood and often has trouble masking his contempt for those he views as less than equal.
  • Troublemaker: John has something of a rebellious streak and is more than happy to bend or break rules for the thrill of it - even finding the thrill in talking himself out of too much trouble when caught.

  • Wealth: Well-To-Do
  • Stubborn
  • Rake

Logs featuring John Logs that refer to John

Tiberius Carrow III
Father: (1902) Pure-blood. John's relationship with his father is somewhat strained, due to Tiberius's regular absences from his and his siblings lives as well as the strict, orderly manner in which he keeps the household when he is present. Despite this, John does have a grudging sort of respect for his father.

Florence Carrow nee Greengrass
Mother: (1903) Pure-blood. John has quite a bit of contempt for his mother, as he feels that she has been largely absent in her duties as a mother, both to him and to his siblings. Indeed, he would attribute his trouble making to a desire to get back at her for what he views as shirking her responsibilities onto him, even if things were not as bad as he might make them out to be.

Grifith Carrow
Brother: (1926) Pure-Blood. Two years John's younger, John has always been close to his brother. John was thrilled to see him sorted into Slytherin when his time came, and makes a point of looking after him while still allowing him his space at school. Grifith seems to share John's views on their parents, though some of that might be down to hearing John's complaints a few too many times. Open For Creation.

Iris Carrow
Sister: (1928) Pure-Blood. Though she's not precisely a little girl anymore, John still thinks of Iris as his baby sister and, as a result, is a bit over-protective. Like Grifith, John makes a point of looking after her at school, even to the point of disregarding some of her protests that she does not need looking after. Open For Creation.
