Description

Exterior

BBC's Broadcasting House is an elongated building with a rounded wall to match the turn of the street. Made of Portland stone, it is mainly flat walled with windows of offices inside, but here and there are sculptures decorating the facade, like the sculpture of Prospero and Ariel above the entrance. The roof is sloped on the East side to allow sunlight to hit nearby homes, and a broadcasting tower extends from the roof.

Interior

The lobby of the BBC's Broadcasting House is quite large and open, with polished stone floors and desk, and floor-to-ceiling windows giving a view of the outside world. In the back, more sculptures decorate the wall. The building is built with the radio broadcasting centre in the heart of the building, surrounded by more stone to soundproof the area. Just outside, there are rooms with many desks with typewriters where the newswriters work. Executive offices line the outside of the building, getting both peace from the bustle of radio operations as well as most of the sunlight through the windows.
