Leaky Cauldron Kitchen
It is a fall night. The weather is cool and stormy.
Everything a magical kitchen should be. It looks like a medieval hearth, because that's all it needs to be. The simplest of 'appliences' are enhanced through magic to give the ease of even the most futuristic of kitchens. The large bread box on the counter just needs the ingredients added to it and within minutes warm fresh baked bread is ready to be served. Dozens of 'fountains' all resembling leaky cauldron keep the soups, sauces, and drinks flowing and in so 'self stirring' to keep them from sitting or getting cold though leaks in the bottom of many cauldrons. The contents oozing out of cracks before they go into the large base cauldron and magic levitates the brew in a flowing stream up into the air and back down into the top cauldron where the leaking process begins again.
So it's late and things are being closed up. Edwin makes his way back to the doorway to the kitchen and stands just in the threshold as he watches Elly in relative silence. He's there a long time before he finally lets out a sigh which is enough for her to know he is there.
Elly has possibly known about his presence since he was there, but she's carried on her clean up duties. Mumsie went upstairs after the dinner rush and is laying down which left Elly to man the kitchen for the most part. "Come for a late night snack?"
Edwin just watches her and then shakes his head, "No. Just wanted to see you." He says and sounds a little melancholy. "And talk." He says quietly. "Friend of mine says I should be off seeing other people like you do. Keep trying to see how I can do that when I don't really want to."
Elly blinks at the tone in his voice and she comes over and rubs his chest with her hands as she looks up into his eyes. "Does 'e now. Doesn't sound too friendly of a sort to me. Ye know I don't mind if ye do see other people. Just don't tell me I'm special, and the only one, an' then go off an run 'bout town with this 'friend'. I con't take that again."
Edwin looks down to the hand on his chest and then looks to her eyes, "Elly. You know I don't want anyone but you." He reaches out and touches her cheek as he smiles to her, "Knowing you are with other men just… I can't help but just roll it over in my brain again and again and think about how unfair it feels to me. To have you in my bed, that close to me and knowing how I feel… And then knowing the next day that some other man claims you as I do." A tear rolls down his cheek. "You are special. You are the only one. Some say I am a fool to say such things so soon after we have been seeing each other but I have seen you for years, wanted you for years… Now I have you and… I don't have you." He reaches up to wipe away that tear and looks to her, "I want this. I want you. What… What do I have to do?"
Elly was warm and loving and sweet and everything she usually is until one cluster of words '…then knowing the next day that some other man claims you as I do.' At those words her hand drops from his chest. She continues to listen to him, letting him say his peace. "I need ye to leave me alone righ' now. Cause I nevah evah been so insulted in me life." She swallows hard and her voice is whispery and hurt and she takes a step back and another step back, and another, then she turns for the stairwell in the kitchen that leads up to the Dodderidge's private home.
Edwin reaches out, "Elly… Please. How do I know what happens when you aren't with me? My brain concocts so many horrible things. Elly… Please… Don't walk away."
Elly does stall when he asks her to wait. Unfortunately for him she has stalled close to the counter where she was putting together dough for tomorrow which means eggs. Elly has never ever thrown anything at anyone in her whole life. But she did warn him that he should just leave her alone. "Ye should TRUST ME!" *Egg lob* "Ye should nae treat me *LOB* like I'm some harlot! *LOB - LOB* Leave. *chuck* Me. *fling* Alone!" *pitch* If Edwin moves one inch deeper into the kitchen he'll find himself sort of suddenly like a giant magnet as all the sharp and bludgeoning devices in the kitchen point towards him.
Duck, duck, duck, slap. As one lands right in his face and he reaches up to wipe it from his eyes. He's quiet for a moment, "Elly… I would never think that of you. I don't think that of you." Another tear comes down his cheek as he steps in that one more step. All the cutlery comes in at him and he freezes, "Elly. I just don't understand it and I need help. Please. I'm just real confused and my brain is making me think horrible things. I love you, Elly. I love you more than anything and I trust you…" He's full on crying now and looking in terror that she ay walk out of his life and not of the cutlery. "I'm scared of me. Scared of doing what I am doing right now… Losing you."
Elly shakes her head as if she's fighting with herself to not forgive him or let his crying make her act on trying to comfort him. "There ye go again. If ye trust me, if ye love me, then how can ye think those 'orrible things bout me!? Ye did…ye did treat me like some harlot. Ye think tha I'm with ye, then the next night I'm off in someone elses bed. I con't 'elp ye Edwin. Who ye need to go to for 'elp is Adamantus Gideon." She's sobbing now to. "Jus' please, leave me alone righ now. Respect my wishes an' leave me alone."
Edwin grimaces and looks to her, "Please… Don't go. Don't leave me… Elly." And he takes another step towards her, reaching out for her not able to stop as he sees her cry like this.
Steel and Iron fly. Elly screams a "NO!" and quickly tries to wave her wand and call it off spinning to step between him and the barrage. Everything does halt and hover in the air and then returns to where it flew from. Her back to him she's still sobbing quietly and hugging herself. "Please…" She sniffles keeping her back to him.
Edwin only stops for a second before he knows he isn't dead and stupid before he closes that distance and has to wrap his arms around this woman unless she does something to push him away. "I love you. I love you so much it hurts. Please don't push me away. I'm a fool. A stupid fool who talks and thinks too much. Forgive me… Please. I love you."
Elly lets out a very pained cry when he wraps his arms around her. The feel of cold metal and the wet warm tackiness of blood meets his embracing hands. They hit the chef's knife that is sunk into the meat and lodged and stuck in the bone of her forearm. Her spinning to his defense put her in the line of fire and she in a sense, took a bullet for him. Her good arm is bracing her wounded arm and she's just sobbing in pain as she clutches the knife to keep it balance and in place.
Edwin feels the blood and moves around in front of her to see what happened. It all comes crashing in his brain that this is his fault, "Oh no… Elly. Oh no…" His breath comes in quick bursts. He looks to the knife and then begins to look all over for something to cover the wound. "No…" He shudders out, "No…" He grabs a towel and moves to put it over the wound and get that knife out of her arm. "I's so sorry… So sorry."
Elly cries, "Careful." At him and tries to shove him back when he returns to her. She looks down at the floor the knife is in her left arm. She's left handed and her wand is laying on the floor and she is trying to keep him from stepping on it. When the towel is wrapped around her arm she trembles and makes little pained sounds.
Edwin bends and gets her wand for her before he steps on it. He keeps looking at her arm and he's just beside himself. He tries to say something else and then just stands there as he looks at her. Finally, defeated and totally sad he speaks, "I trust you. Forever and always. Please, forgive me for getting you hurt and for being a fool for my heart that belongs to you and you alone."
Elly shows him how it needs to be wrapped and is in Healer mode. When the towel is secure and helping keep the knife from wobbling around. She lifts up her hand to just pat his lips, in shock and unaware that she's just smeared some blood in the wake of her fingers. "Shh… Mungo's."
Edwin gives a little nod and follows her instructions. He looks to her and in his tears and worry he goes, "I can pick you up and take you…"
Elly tenses up and shakes her head. "I can do it. I do it e'ry time there's a baby…just go 'ome. I'll see ye soon." She wobbles and takes some steps towards the fireplace in the kitchen where there's a cauldron of Floo powder and the powder sticks to her bloody hand so she takes quite a lot more than usual before she stumbles into the fireplace. "Saint Mungos."
"Okay." Edwin says so quietly. "I should come with you…"
Elly shakes her head and with tears streaming down her cheeks says, "Listen to me for once. Go. Home." The powder is tossed down and the wench is consumed in green flare and then is no longer there.
Edwin swallows hard and just stands there for a very long, long time before he turns and slowly walks for the door. He forgets his coat and hat there, walking all the way home and once there sitting down on his couch and stares into the fire.
