Details for Evening Tea
Summary: Rhyeline awaits Cassius for tea at Cafe Tasseo, and gets a few unexpected guests as well.
Date: September 9th, 1938
Location: Cafe Tasseo

Cafe Tasseo Diagon Alley

Named for the art of Tasseomancy (Tea Leaf Reading), the posh Cafe Tasseo offers complimentary tea leaf reading to its customers. The cafe has a sort of French elegance to it, but it is much less flagrant, which makes it pure British. The chairs are all padded dining chairs of mahogany and golden embossed fabric one would expect to find in a Louis XIV style without all the pomp of leaves and flanges, just smooth curvaceous lines of mahogany. The use of mahogany, gold and pristine white is throughout the spacious room.

The ceiling is a floral mosaic of white and gold with chandeliers and light fixtures dangling from the mosaic in appropriate places. The gold gilding continues into the walls, accenting raised relief panels on the columns between the windows. The panels share the floral motif of the ceiling, intricately crafted down to the last detail. The windows themselves are just as magnificently turned out; the top quarter is draped in gold shades, the bottom half covered by white sheers, allowing the patrons privacy yet letting ample light through the uncovered section of glass.

A light drizzle leaves the streets of Verdic Alley slick and shining in the magical lamplight now that evening has fallen. Sitting at a table near the window, Rhyeline gazes out at the pedestrians as they scuttle for cover. A book sits open upon her table and a cup of tea keeps her delicate hands warm. An empty plate of scone crumbs sits on the table, suggesting the little mouse has been here for some time.

Amidst the pedestrians hurrying to get out of the drizzle, a horse-drawn carriage wheels up in front of the cafe. The side door opens, and out steps the tall, narrow figure of Cassius Malfoy, controversial Ministry barrister and leader of the Unity Party. The rain slides cleanly off of his shimmering, forest-green cape, and his platinum locks are protected by a wide-brimmed hat. He nods to the driver, sending the carriage off, and strides into Cafe Tasseo with his snakeskin satchel in hand. His sharp eyes slide immediately to Rhyeline. "There you are, looking more hale and radiant every day." He gives her a broad smile as he moves to take his seat at her table.

Brei stalks down the street with several book shaped packages in one hand and a black umbrella in the other. The black haired witch ducks into the Cafe to get out of the wet just before the carriage rolls up. She doesn't seem to mind the rain too much and even glances out the window at it with an almost…relaxed expression. Rather odd for her but its soon replaced with her customary scowl when she realizes the place is fairly packed. Spotting Rhyeline near a window Brei makes her way over scowl lessening just a bit. "Hello…Would you mind if I joined you? I wish to wait for the rain to stop so my books are not ruined completely." She glances down at the three packages and shift them carefully in her arms while she waits for an answer. It is then that Cassius makes his way over and she sighs. "Forgive me I did not know you where waiting for someone." She turns away trying to find another seat.

Where oh where has Cyril Malfoy gone? Oh where oh where could he be? Well, apparently he's just outside of Cafe Tasseo…though, nobody's seen him in months. It was almost as if the man had fallen off the face of the earth. If that were the case then how could he be here now? Upon spying his brother's entrance, Cyril follows suit, moving to sit at a table by himself, eyes resting squarely on the back of Cassius' head.

Rhyeline notices the carriage at once and with a small smile, takes another sip of tea. Closing the book and setting down her cup of tea, she waits for Cassius to enter and approach. Brei beats him to it and the little mouse blinks in surprise when she is greeted. Parting her lips, she is about to speak when Cassius approaches at last. Still adjusting to large groups of people, Rhyeline hesitates before nodding to them both in greeting. "Hello Cassius, this is Ms. Montague whom I mentioned the other day."

Cassius turns his beaming smile toward Brei, dipping slightly at the waist in greeting. "Ms. Montague. Cassius Malfoy. Absolutely delighted to make your acquaintance. Won't you join us?" Without waiting for an answer, he moves to pull out a chair for her, gesturing invitingly.

Graham isn't often in the tea shop, but it isn't unheard of in the past when the pub is too crowded or he feels like more quiet. It's hard to see if he came for tea or a quick bite today, but enter he does glancing around he spots one he's familiar with and other folks which gives him pause but only briefly before he moves on to find a table. He passes giving a smile and nod in greeting "Hello, Miss Diderot it's good to see you." he says though finding a seat where he plops down into.

"Ever the charmer, baby brother," muses Cyril with a grin from behind Cassius. The larger man sits at the table, one leg crossed over the other and the grin still resting on his lips. He rests his hands on the back of his leg and awaits a reaction, whatever it may be.

Rhyeline tilts her head to the side as Brei is called away. Graham's greeting recieves a soft smile and a nod in return, but then Cyril's arrival snags the girl's attention. Bringing the cup of tea to her lips, she peeks over the brim at Cyril with a look of caution.

The flare of Cassius' nostrils is barely noticeable as he takes his own seat at last. But he manages a polite smile for his brother, even as he nods in silent greeting to Graham. "Cyril. I see your manners are as cunningly crafted as ever. Finally decided to emerge from the woodwork? Doubtless with some tale of derring-do, or precious artefacts plundered from hapless barbarians."

Graham smiles and doesn't mind the silent greeting he understands nodding to Cassius "Greetings as well." he adds before he picks up a menu to look at it a bit not wishing to disturb the gathering over much. He is silent though cant help but take moments to look over the menu the caution noted on the face of his newly found friend.

"Nothing so trite, baby brother. I was just spending some time in the tropics. Living out of a shack and drinking copious amounts of alcohol." He offers his brother a charming smile and says, "The usual." Cyril stands from his table and moves to where Cassius and Rhyeline are sitting. He gestures to an open seat and looks to Rhyeline, "Might I join, as well?"

Rhyeline blinks from behind the teacup as Cyril directs his request to her rather than at his brother. Looking a touch nervous, she glances at Cassius and then back up at Cyril. Since the younger Malfoy last saw her, the little one's hair has grown rather long, and if possible, she seems more shy than before.

Cassius gestures to the empty chair. "Oh, by all means, dear brother. Do sit. Rhyeline? Would your friend there care to join us as well?" He nods in Graham's direction. "It seems we have a soiree forming. We may as well embrace it."

Rhyeline seems relieved when Cassius steps in. Then at his suggestion, she nods and looks to Graham, hoping to catch his eye and beckon him over with a small, tentative smile.

Graham decides on some simple tea and maybe a cracker or two. He sets down the menu and had been watching perhaps concerned with the worried look but it looks a bit better now. He nods and stands up to make his way over. "Thank you." he says to each in turn pulling a seat out as well to sit down. "I'm sorry we've not been properly introduced well beyond Miss Diderot. I am Graham Cohen." he offers his hand to each in greeting.

Cyril pulls out the chair and has a seat, looking to the woman "You are looking well, Rhyeline. Quite well." His golden eyes look her over for a moment before the flicker back to his brother, "I trust you missed me, Cassius?" He offers Graham a nod and reaches up to take his hand, "Cyril Malfoy."

Cassius shakes Graham's hand, lifting a curious eyebrow. "Cassius Malfoy, at your service. Auror Graham Cohen, isn't it? There's been quite a bit of chatter around the office about you, of late." He looks to Rhyeline and Cyril, explaining, "Auror Cohen here is Chief Worthington's new star."

Rhyeline's cheeks warm as Cyril fixes his full attention on her for a moment. She gives a small nod in thanks. At Cassius' words, she blinks in surprise, but then offers Graham a smile of congratulations.

"It's good to meet you both." Graham says to each in turn as he shakes hands the last though catches his attention with his use of job title though he shouldnt be surprised given the ministry work place. "Yes sir, I am not sure about star I've been trying to do my part is all." he catches the congrats from Rhyeline giving a small shrug not one to boast.

Cyril raises his eyebrows to Cassius before his eyes rest on Graham says, "It's not every day you get to meet a star Auror now is it? Here I am just a simple traveler. I'm duly humbled." His eyes move back to Rhyeline for a moment but quickly fall back on Graham, "So, what exactly sets you apart from the others?"

Cassius tsks. "Don't be modest, Cohen. Is it true that you were just promoted?" He glances to his brother, "I hear he's had numerous private meetings with Worthington. Since he hasn't been fired, one can only assume he's in the Chief's confidence."

Rhyeline peeks over at Cyril just as he looks to her. Quickly, she lowers her gaze and hides behind her cup of tea. As Cassius lists Graham's accomplishments, Rhyeline's gaze widens a bit. The mouse seems impressed and pleased for the man, smiling as she sets her empty cup on the table.

Graham smiles though he answers Cassius first "Yes, I was recently promoted." though he looks back to Cyril "I honestly think there are so many great auror's I'm just trying not to mess up is all. I will say that my success is due to a promise I made t my girlfriend that I wouldn't wind up in St Mungo's every time I do I have to work on the herb fields picking for a harvest of her choosing." he grins.

"Well, confidence /is/ key," remarks Cyril to Cassius. Wordplay! "You know, I don't think I've ever been promoted, so that's something to be proud of. Though, I can't honestly say I've ever had an actual job, so…" Cyril shrugs and crosses his meaty arms, sizing the auror up.

Cassius lifts his brow, looking genuinely surprised at his brother's play on words. "Clever, Cyril. In any event, I'll stop embarrassing this poor chap. But congratulations nonetheless on your promotion. I hope I have the opportunity to prosecute some of your cases. They must be tremendously interesting. Rhyeline, my dear, do you need refill?" He waves to a server to put is his own order. "Yes, I'll have a pomegranate tea, and please bring my companions whatever they like."

"Yes, please," murmurs Rhyeline with a soft smile at the suggestion of a refill. The mouse speaks! In Rhyeline's case, the server already knows what she'd been drinking before, so she doesn't speak again.

"Thank you." Graham says taking the thanks for his promotion or at least assuming this is the best he can hope for in current time. He the turns as Rhyeline speaks but he'll wait till after and orders his tea and food before he speaks to her "Ah, that reminds me. I apologize for my quick exit I hope you enjoyed the rest of your evening?" he says and asks.

"I would like scotch…or some sort of alcohol, if you've got it," says Cyril to the server. He leans back in his chair, arms still crosses as he observes Graham and Rhyeline. He looks over to Cassius and says, "We should have a talk soon. Are you going to be home at all this week?"

The server winces apologetically to Cyril. "I'm so sorry. We don't serve alcohol. Could I get you a coffee, perhaps?"

Cassius chuckles softly at his brother's minor dilemma. "I'm home every night. Best if you come after eight o'clock. Even better if you send word that you're coming. I'll have dinner prepared."

Rhyeline's cheeks warm as Cyril fixes his full attention on her for a moment. She gives a small nod in thanks. Looking to Graham, she shakes her head and murmurs, "No, Sorcha was so kind and invited me in for tea."

Graham allows the brothers to speak not wishing to seem like he's listening in from where he's seated. His gaze is to the lady as she speaks he responds quickly enough and gladly. "Oh good I'm glad to hear that it went well." he says giving a friendly smile

"Coffee will be fine," remarks Cyril coldly to the server. He looks to Cassius and says, "Let's call it Thursday night at nine. Have your elves cook up something light. I don't often like to eat a big meal that late in the evening." He raises his eyebrows to Cassius and says, "Many a happening in South America right now, dear brother."

Cassius blinks at Cyril, keeping a stony face to mask his disgust. Then, he laughs softly, "Too amusing, Cyril. As if I would let house-elves touch the food. I'm glad to see you haven't lost your sense of humour, doing whatever you've been doing. South America is it? Is that were you ran off to this time?"

Cyril nods to Cassius and says, "Indeed." He pauses for a moment as his coffee is delivered to him and continues, once the ears of the help are far away. "Yes, I will of course delve into the juicier details when we have dinner, but let's just say there was no shortage of adventure."
