Entry Hall, Ground Floor

The marble beginnng of the staircases leading upwards into the castle face the heavy oak doors that lead outside across a flagged stone expanse that could fit an average house. Looking up, one can see the staircases shifting from one landing to the next, on up into the shadows making it difficult to tell just how high the Entrance Hall really is. The torches in the walls do little to pierce the dimness overhead, but cast light on the suits of armor flanking the front doors and the many doors spaced at odd intervals leading to the Great Hall, Slytherin Dungeons, Staff quarters, and even a broom closet.

Perhaps the thing of greatest interest in this entry though, at least to the students, are the four large hourglasses housed in niches on one of the walls opposite the doors. One filled with sapphires, one with emeralds, one with rubies, and the last with topaz, these hourglasses keep track of the all important House points. The gems in the bottom half represent the points earned so far by houses Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin.

Kimiko slows her steps a bit once she's out of the Great Hall. She clutches her sketchbook to her chest, sighing in exasperation and shaking her head. "Very nice, Kimi. You're a right smooth talker. Ugh."

Niko comes out of the Great Hall, not too long after Kimiko, his bluish green eyes moves across the Entry Hall, looking for her before spotting her. He starts to walk towards her, his hand moving up and running through his hair slowly, "Saito…" he says softly, trying to catch her attention, the warm smile normally on his face, replaced with a rather worried expression.

Kimiko is nearly to the bottom of the Grand Staircase when Niko's voice spins her in place, showing off a hint of the elegant grace she demonstrates as a dancer…and seems to lose completely just about any other time. She pinches her lips, eyes wide as galleons as she fights the remains of her earlier blush. "Hmmmm?"

Niko brings his hand up and softly rubs the back of his head, "I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable or embarrass you…" he says slowly, looking at her, "I said something and it came out rude." he continues, "But you know I am not a rude person." he says, speaking kind of fast now, "Then I tried to make it better…" he says with a deep sigh, "And I did just that, I made you uncomfortable and embarrassed you, I am sorry Saito." he says slowly, trying to offer her a warm smile.

"Oh…that?" Kimiko is truly a terribly liar, and it shows in her effort to feign ignorance. "No, no…of course I knew what you meant. I just…remembered a thing…that I had to do. Um…yes, I'm sorry for leaving so suddenly." She might be slightly more convincing if she could actually look him in the eye, rather than everywhere but his eyes.

Niko smiles turns a little warmer, "Saito…" he says softly taking another step towards her, "We have been in the same house for how many years now?" he says softly, shaking his head, "Please don't lie to me…" his tone soft and friendly, "I would much rather short this out, then have it ignored." he says slowly, looking at her with his bluish green eyes.

Kimiko sighs, shoulders slumping and offering him a resigned smile. "There's nothing to sort out. You said you're in a relationship now, and I'm happy for you. I would never, never try to get in the way of that happiness."

Niko looks confused for a second, before blinking, "Why… didn't you ever say anything before…" he says slowly, running his hand through his hair slowly nervously, "I mean…" he says softly, "I would never do anything to hurt Janette." he says slowly, "But you never…I had no idea." he says softly, "So that's why it upset you…When I said how we would look as a couple" he says slowly, "I am so sorry…" he says softly, with a sigh.

Kimiko takes a deep, steadying breath. "Please don't be sorry. Denholm…I didn't say anything because I never really thought about it. Don't misunderstand me. I think you're wonderful, and…" A demure smile curves her lips as her cheeks colour again. "…I'd date you in a heartbeat. But…it was when you said it wasn't even a possibility that I thought…you know." She shrugs timidly. "And then you said that thing about us making a nice couple, and I just got all flustered and made a bloody great fool of myself."

Niko smiles at her warmly, "I have always stayed away from dating because it gets so messy." he says softly, with a sigh, "People get hurt and I don't like that." he says slowly closing his eyes, "You didn't make a fool of yourself…" he says slowly, shaking his head. "To be honest, I have no idea what I am doing or how I should even be acting." he says closing his eyes, for a moment, "I don't know what to say with out making this awkward for people." he says softly, "I have always just been so honest about things, now I feel like honesty will make things weird for people." he says with a sigh, "Just like when you mentioned that you'd date me in a heart beat, I wanted to tell you that if you'd had asked I would have accepted in a hea…" he closes his eyes tightly, bringing his hand to his forehead, "See!" he says with a exhausted sigh.

Kimiko lowers her gaze and can't help but laugh softly. "We do have a way of making one another feel awkward." The tiny girl looks up, lifting her chin. "You're not wrong to be honest. Honesty is best. It's when we try to deceive that things get really mucked up. Den-…Nikolas, we're friends, right? I think…I think we should focus on that. You've got Janette now." She pauses for a moment, swallowing hard as the reality of her fellow Gryffindor dating a Slytherin Prefect hitting her like a ton of bricks. "Ah…yes, so you have Janette, and that's who you should be thinking about."

Niko chuckles softly, "Kimiko, you area a good person, you know that?" he says softly, offering her a small smile, "Of course we are friends Kimiko. I would never think of you as anything but that." he says slowly with his warm smile, his gaze on her. "Thank you for being supportive and my friend in this." he says softly with a small nod.

Kimiko puts on her bravest face. But there is, perhaps, a sliver of sadness hiding behind that smile. "Of course. You deserve to be happy, and if Abbott can do that for you, then bravo for the both of you." She looks over her shoulder at the staircase, nibbling at her lip. "I should probably get up to the tower. I'm sure I have some reading to do." She doesn't quite turn her face all the way back to him, letting her gaze wander a bit.

Niko smiles softly, it is not as warm as it normally is, one of the few times that Niko can be seen without his trademark warm and friendly smile, "Thank you, Kimiko." he says again, before nodding, "Of course…" he says slowly, his hand moving up to wave goodbye, "See you in class." he says warmly with a small nod. Before his gaze stays on Kimiko as for a moment, before he runs his hand through his hair, and turns to head outside.
