The annual Sykes Holiday Gala was interrupted by a group of unknown attackers. During a ceremony honouring the Magijugend, a spell extinguished all of the lights on the Sykes grounds. Five attendees were levitated above the party-goers heads and subjected to the Cruciatus Curse. Among the victims was the head of the Unity Party, Cassius Malfoy. The attackers, who used powerful magic to move about unseen, made a number of demands:

  1. That the Ministry take an official stance against Gellert Grindelwald and his movement.
  2. That the Eye of Truth be banned from wizarding society altogether.
  3. That discrimination against Muggle-borns and half-bloods be outlawed, along with extra security provided to businesses and establishments that are considered "mud-friendly."

The unknown assailants used a number of curses to cause structural damage to the Sykes Estate ballroom, and set fire to the building itself. There were several injuries suffered in the attack, and at least two confirmed casualties: Alanna Proudmore and Juliette Rousseau.

So far, no one has come forward to claim credit for the attack. But witnesses say that one of the assailants was captured, apparently bested by a student, Alphard Black. The Auror Office has assured that interrogations will be under way as soon as the prisoner is released from St. Mungo's.
