It was certainly an unexpected outcome on Sunday, as the Holyhead Harpies beat the Tutshill Tornadoes in the first match-up this season. The key to victory for the Harpies was that they were able to win the Chaser battle. Tutshill was never able to find a way to get the quaffle in the hands of their whirlwind playmakers often enough.

Holyhead's Anne Dippet has at last lived up to the lofty expectations she set for herself. "For me it's not about the individual records," she said after the game. "It's all about the team. I'm just glad we were able to go out there and get the win today," she added. The debate over whether Anne Dippet is truly elite is far from settled, but she made her case forcefully all afternoon.

Tutshill Seeker Roderick Plumpton's shaky first-half performance was too much to overcome, as his late-game effort fell short. "We stuck together and gave it 110 percent. It just wasn't enough to get the win in the end," he said in the post-game press conference. At times, Plumpton looks like he's just trying too hard. He's got to learn to let the snitch come to him.

The Tornadoes just can't continue to make the kinds of mistakes they made at this level of the sport. On defense, the Tornadoes need to get creative and dial up more blitzes to keep opposing offense on its heels. Tutshill's offensive performance was downright offensive in every respect, futile displays up and down the field all day. They'll need to return to a chaser-heavy game plan to set up the pass instead of whatever it was they thought they were doing with their beaters.

Holyhead has proven it can get it done in crunch time. Everyone knows Quidditch is a game of emotion, and clearly the Harpies had the passion to come out on top. The Harpies made a statement today, and they've got a chance to do something special this season.
