After two years of campaigning for the joining of the wizarding and Muggle worlds, the dreams of the Unity Party are taking a step closer to reality. The Unity Act, Cassius Malfoy's controversial legislation that would write his party's position into law, is scheduled to be reviewed by the Wizengamot when it reconvenes on January 1st.
Support for the Unity Act has been steadily growing, in no small part due to Malfoy's easy charm and passionate speech-making. Though no members of the Wizengamot that the Daily Prophet approached would give a statement, sources from within the Ministry have indicated that the vote could be very close.
The primary opponent of the Unity Act is the Preservation Society, a group dedicated to maintaining the ideals of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy. "This Unity Act would be a violation of international law," said Preservation supporter, Magistrate Clarity Hawkins. "It would put Britain at odds with every other country in the world."
Malfoy himself has commented on the matter of international law. "When age-old agreements start to compromise our own security, we much reconsider the value of those agreements. The world has had sufficient time to do the same, and it is my hope that other nations will follow our bold example into a new era of brotherhood and prosperity."
If the Unity Act passes, work will begin by February to reorganise the Ministry and make contact with the Muggle authorities.
