August 18 – Zoanthropy cure campaign is declared a success with 304 witches and wizards confirmed free of all symptoms.
“The epidemic is over,” confirmed says Arnold Eele, Ministry Spokesperson. “The important thing now is to figure out where it came from and how to keep something like this from happening again. The Ministry has its top witches and wizards on it.” No further details of the ongoing investigation were offered.
At joint press conference, St. Mungo’s and Ministry officials confirmed a large turn-out during the one-week grace period for infected witches and wizards to come forward for treatment. The remaining individuals were swiftly identified and cured with the help of a responsible public sending in tips.
In the wake of this successful cure, lycanthropy activists raised questions regarding what this might spell for their own condition.
Healers caution optimism. Virgil Goshawk VI, Healer-in-Charge of Magical Bugs and Diseases stated, “There were some fundamental differences in how these diseases work.” An explanation followed, but no one could quite follow what he said. “The point is,” he concluded, “this cure won’t have any impact at all on lycanthropy.”
Similarities between Zoanthropy and Lycanthropy raised questions about whether students would be allowed to return to Hogwarts. However, this cure comes well in advance of the start of term on September 2nd.
