Description

With bright blue eyes and long, flowing, well brushed brown hair, this young girl looks about eleven years old. Standing at four feet and five inches, Olive's very light frame suggests she would weigh in at seventy pounds, if that. Very fair skin highlights against a pointed nose and the subtle smile of her naturally pink, thin lips. Deeply dimpled cheeks frame a thin jaw that ends in a pointed chin. The subtle scent of expensive oils drifts from her slight frame, and she speaks in a tone that suggests she is from southern England.
At the moment Olive is wearing a Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry uniform. Rather notable by the scarlet and gold colouring she must have sorted into House Gryffindor. A grey vest edged in gold and scarlet covers a crisp white Oxford shirt, buttoned from the belt-line to the collar and accented with a scarlet tie with narrow gold stripes. The shirt is tucked neatly into a matching grey pleated skirt. Skirt and stockings meet at the knees, and black shoes are worn on the feet. Over all of this flows a voluminous black robe lined in soft Gryffindor Scarlet fabric, unadorned except for a scarlet maned golden lion standing rampant over a scarlet background with gold fret sewn over the heart.

Background

Olive Hornby was born the daughter of Bartholomew and Eugenia Hornby, a well to do and highly respectable wizard and witch couple of Deal, Kent, on May 25th, 1929. Half-blood and proud of it, Bartholomew was a curse breaker for Gringotts Wizarding Bank and Eugenia was a house-witch. Though the Hornby family lived a good distance from London, it did not interfere with Bartholomew’s obligations to his work, as he was often still sent off on assignment, and with the Floo Network he could journey to London quite quickly. The Hornby home was a large and elaborate thing, a small mansion really that had a few house elves, which made Eugenia’s duties quite light. As a result, Olive was brought up quite spoiled, the product of an ever doting mother, frequent shopping trips to attain whatever she desired(within reason), and a private tutor that saw to her schooling in her earlier years. Though her father was frequently away from home on assignment, when he was home he was just as loving as Eugenia. Her older brother, Bartholomew Jr, was already gone to Hogwarts by the time Olive was born, but she saw him over holidays and they got along well enough. She had many friends, other children in wizarding families nearby, that she played with through a very structured play date scheduling system. Olive was quite the young bully, somewhat bossy, and if anyone crossed her they would meet her young fury as a result.

When Olive got her letter to Hogwarts, she was quite pleased as were her mother and father. Of course they knew that she would be wonderful, as did Olive. She was whisked away to Diagon Alley to retrieve all of her school supplies and then upon the appointed day to the Hogwarts Express. Since arriving at Hogwarts, she has fallen in quite well. Sorted into Gryffindor, she has a clique of young Gryffindor girls that she has set herself up as the leader of, and she takes considerable pleasure in teasing and hazing a young muggle-born girl by the name of Myrtle. It’s her own fault really, she makes herself such an easy target.

Relationships

Bartholomew Hornby Father - (b. 1888) Olive loves her father and thinks his job is quite wonderful, even if it does keep him away from home too often. He dotes on her whenever he is home though, which is good enough for her.

Eugenia Hornby nee Bones Mother - (b. 1902) Olive absolutely adores her mother. The two of them are thick as thieves, considering that they spent so much time together throughout Olive's younger years, and there were really no squabbles over chores to tarnish their affection for one another given the house elves. She misses her mother, but Eugenia writes Olive every day and sends her sweets from home twice a week, so that is nice.

Myrtle Victim - What a stupid little clinger. Olive has seen this girl clinging to her dumb wide eyed looking muggle mother sometimes in Diagon Alley. Obviously Muggles. They look so dumb with their mouths agape and their eyes wide as saucers. Especially Myrtle, she has glasses and makes her wide eyes look even more like she's some stupid little house-elf. Olive just does not like this girl and she is not shy about letting that fact be known.
