Getting Involved
This plot is big, and intended for nearly anyone to be able to get involved, to some extent. Any student at Hogwarts last year could have seen the "mirror memory" (see A Memory Unveiled for details). Aurors have a direct connection to get involved in the investigation, as do Unspeakables. Those with some kind of underworld connection can easily be worked into things. Or maybe your character was just in the right (wrong) place at the right (wrong) time.
