A very simple potion that is truly just water infused with Aconite. While it's typically an ingredient in other potions Aconite Fluid can be sipped to help relieve pain, as a diuretic, heart sedative, and to induce sweating.

• Bring Potioning Water to boil in cauldron.
• Add Aconite.
• Steep on a low boil for 10 minutes.
• Transfer all into phial.
• Let cool and store.

hp.png Ageing Potion Transformation

Depending on the amount quaffed this potion will age the drinker to various degrees. It is green in color and is usually bottled in a squat little clear glass bottle that resembles a pear somewhat. Prepare all ingredients as listed in the ingredients list, weighing and measuring each carefully.

• Slowly heat the red wine and prune juice and begin stirring clockwise until you can just see bubbles starting to form. (The mixture will be dark purple/brown)
• Immediately add the Hairy Fungus and continue to stir clockwise for ten minutes. (The mixture will slowly fade to a lighter purple/brown)
• Continuing to stir clockwise, add the tortoise shell. (The mixture will be a creamy color)
• After eight minutes, remove the cauldron from the heat and add the caterpillar and bat tongue, making sure to continue to stir the solution in a clockwise motion.
• As the potion cools, it will turn milky white. Once it is completely cooled (about fifteen to twenty minutes), you may cease your clockwise stirring and dispense the potion into appropriate vials for storage.

This potion has the opposite effect of Amortentia.

This clear purple liquid is an ingredient in potion making for potions that enhance focus and clarity. Wonderful for the practice of Potions and Divination in particular. When used on its own it provides a +1 to Potions and Divination +rolls.
Note: The use of this potion before exams or class is considered cheating.

• Pour Potion Water into small cauldron and bring to a simmer
• Add chopped Lavender plants into cauldron and push below the surface of the water with a wooden spoon
• Over the course of five minutes add one pinch of Pulverized Crystal Ball per minute, stirring slowly and constantly

Alihotsy (also known as the Hyena Tree) is a magical tree whose leaves are noted for hysteria-inducing properties. Alihotsy Draught is a simple potion; however, mere inhalation of its aroma can cause hysterical laughter. Internal use is unwise and should be strictly regulated. The only known antidote is the treacle produced by the Glumbumble.

• Bring Water to simmer in cauldron.
• Coarsely chop Alihotsy Leaves and add to water.
• Steep for 10 minutes.
• Strain and transfer all into phial.
• Let cool and store.

The strongest love potion in existence, Amortentia is considered to be both powerful and dangerous. While it is impossible to manufacture actual love, one must not underestimate the deep infatuation created by this potion. Its effect is almost instantaneous; and those under its spell will harbor an obsession for the administering party. The unfortunate drinker will also exhibit symptoms which include the following: A sickly pallor, an overly excitable nature, and dangerous emotional instability toward others. The illusion of love will last as long as the potion is administered at regular intervals. Once the effects wear off, the drinker regains free will.
When brewed correctly, Amortentia has a distinct mother-of-pearl sheen, and steam rises from it in characteristic spirals.

Another singular characteristic of this potion is its adaptive scent, which will alter to appeal to the preferences of whomever inhales the aroma.

Part I
• Pour Standard Potioning Water into a gold cauldron and place over a very low flame
• Bruise the Peppermint Flower heads with a mortar and pestle and sprinkle into the lukewarm water
• Take whole Peppermint Leaves and drop into the water
• Add Powdered Moonstone, one tbs at a time, stirring anti-clockwise three times between each spoonful
• While the potion is still moving, sprinkle Rose Thorns into the water and leave to rest for an hour
• Remove from heat and cover with a silk cloth in a dark place to steep

Part II
• Over the course of the next seven days, uncover the potion once a day to stir seven times anti-clockwise and re-cover
• On the ninth day of brewing, place cauldron over a low flame
• Carefully place Ashwinder Eggs into the potion one at a time, gently stirring without direction
• When steam begins to rise, add the victim's lock of hair or drop of blood to the potion
• The potion will become pearlescent in colour and must be removed from the heat
• Strain the liquid into a vial for storage

  • Embarrassing Failure: The quaffer suffers the opposite effect of the potion and becomes loathed of the brewer. The makings of a violent stalker.
  • Failure: The quaffer feels no differently towards the brewer but they do know that the attempt was made for their love by the brewer.
  • Any Success: The Quaffer becomes obsessed and overtly in love with the brewer/target.
  • Success: Effects last a day.

This is a powerful poison that can kill quickly. It is also said that those that die of this poison can not come back as a ghost, theory is their spirit is either destroyed or forced over. The danger of this poison is that it takes a +roll Potions-4 and a great success to diagnose. This is because the symptoms are so very subtle; a paling of the skin, the taste of snow and or ash in the mouth, slight stiffness in the joints. The fatal effect of this poison is a tiredness that usually leads to a peaceful sleep. It is only until the final breath is released and with it a glowing white vapor from the mouth is the poisoning obvious.

• Pour Potion Water into a silver cauldron
• Using a silver knife, slice each leaf lengthwise down the center vein before adding them to the water
• Moving anti-clockwise, place twelve Angel's Trumpet Flowers around the circle of the cauldron
• Finish by placing the last flower in the center of the cauldron
• Cover cauldron and leave in a dark location, undisturbed for thirteen days
• Carefully remove the withered remains of the plants and ladle into a dark glass flask to complete the potion

• Pour diluted Bubotuber Pus into cauldron and place over a low fire to bring to a simmer

• Allow mixture to simmer for five minutes, untouched
• Add the Witch Hazel to the solution and stir twelve times anti-clockwise
• Remove from heat and allow to cool considerably before pouring into bottle for storage

A potion which counteracts the effects of ordinary poisons, such as the bites and stings of magical creatures.

• Add Bezoar to mortar and crush to fine powder.
• Add 4 measures of Bezoar powder to cauldron.
• Add 1 measure of crushed Mint Sprigs.
• Add 10 drops of Essence of Lavender.
• Heat to medium temperature for 5 seconds.
• Wave wand over cauldron.
• Leave to brew 40 minutes in Pewter Cauldron.
• Pour contents into a Brass Cauldron and leave to brew 34 minutes.
• Pour contents into a Copper Cauldron and leave to brew a further 30 minutes.
• Add 1 pinch of Unicorn Horn to mixture and stir 2 times, clockwise.

• While waiting for water to boil, grind Graphorn Horn with mortar and pestle into a fine powder.
• Add horn powder to cauldron and leave to boil for 10 minutes.
• Grind Billywig Stings and Chizpurfle Carapaces together in mortar and pestle into a coarse powder before adding to cauldron.
• Drop Fire Seeds into cauldron and remove from heat.
• Stir periodically whilst mixture is cooling to room temperature.

This potion counteracts the truth serum effects of Veritaserum. Just as with Veritaserum, the process of brewing is lengthy and complex, and should only be undertaken by an experienced potion maker.

Part I
• Pour Honeywater into a cool silver cauldron and place over a low flame to bring to a simmer
• Coarsely chop Valerian Sprigs with a silver knife and stir them into the cauldron
• Slowly drop the Mistletoe Berries into the cauldron and stir seven times clockwise and seven times anti-clockwise
• Leave mixture to simmer for about 45 minutes before removing from heat
• The wax from the Mistletoe Berries should rise to the surface and harden, forming a protective skin over the potion
• Leave in a cool, dark location to steep for one month

Part II
• At the one month mark, carefully break the wax skin. The solid ingredients from the initial brewing will have risen to the surface and stuck to the wax, leaving a clean potion base to work with.
• Place cauldron over a medium flame and bring to a boil
• Drop Runespoor Eggs into the mixture, one by one and allow them to roll with the boil
• Tap pulverized Unicorn horn into the mixture and stir thoroughly
• Remove cauldron from heat and allow to cool before straining it cleanly into a bottle
• Allow potion to mature for one month before use

Antimony (chemical symbol: Sb) is a chemical element. In its elemental form is a silvery white, crystalline solid. An uncommon but time-honoured ingredient, all but the smallest amount is toxic. However, most potions requiring Antimony contain other ingredients which neutralize its toxicity.

• Pour 4 oz. of solid Antimony into Phial, use a crystal funnel to aid the process.
• Enchant phial's stopper with warming spell.
• Place stopper in phial, make sure it's well sealed.
• Cast vibration spell on phial for 5 minutes.
• Give phial one more manual clockwise spin to make sure the fluid is entirely molten.
• Store or use immediately.

The Anti-Paralysis Potion acts as an antidote to paralysis caused by charmed suits of armour or other creatures.

• In a cool silver cauldron, mix the Syrup of Hellebore and stewed Mandrake thoroughly
• Place over a medium flame and heat until the mixture begins to bubble slowly
• Stir pulverized Unicorn Horn into the thick mixture clockwise until completely dissolved
• Immediately stir Moondew into the cauldron and wait for the thick cloud of steam to dissipate
• Slowly pour Honeywater into the cauldron, stirring consistently in a clockwise direction until all has been added
• Leave to boil until the mixture thickens to resemble dark amber honey
• Cool and pour into a bottle for storage

Aquavitæ is prepared by distilling white wine. Which pales the yellow colour into something that looks quite like water. If Aquavitæ is allowed to age it darkens back into a brownish, dark amber colour. (In essence, this is 'moonshine' and turns into brandy with age.)

• Pour White Wine into Retort and place on stand over a low flame
• Place bottle at the spout end of the retort and allow the vapors to condense and flow into the bottle naturally
• Once the distillation process is complete, put a stopper into the bottle and store for future use

This is an highly corrosive substance, and the lid is meant to be kept closed at all times. Handle with care. Skin-contact is inadvisable. Wash the affected tissue immediately with Unicorn Hair to neutralize the effect.

• Pour Water and Armadillo Bile into Cauldron and bring to a low boil.
• Add Bat Wings to the mixture, stirring anti-clockwise quickly, but carefully.
• While mixture is still spinning, add Wormwood and Armotentia, then leave to boil for 10 minutes.
• Lower heat under cauldron and allow to simmer for another 10 minutes.
• Stir clockwise slowly whilst adding Acromantula Venom.
• Allow to simmer for 5 minutes before removing from heat.
• Pour Aconite into mixture immediately, stirring 7 times anti-clockwise before leaving to cool.
• Strain mixture and pour into sturdy stoneware jug.

Werewolf fur will keep out werewolves, etc. The potion becomes the bane of that which is added and will not pass over the line. Note: Baneberry is extremely poisonous and must not be ingested.

The making, storage and use of this potion is fraught with difficulty - to say nothing of the questionable legality of possession. It is a dangerous and volatile potion with the colour and consistency of partially congealed blood. If poured in a line, it will create an temporary, but effective black smoke screen that appears to consume whatever light hits it. If the potion vial is thrown, it will explode on impact and burst into black flames, which appear to siphon light from the immediate vicinity. Attempts to control said fire should be handled from a distance, unless one consumes Fire Protection Potion beforehand.

Part I
• Pour Dragon Blood into a medium cauldron and bring to a simmer over a slow fire
• Slowly pour Dragon Claw Ooze into the blood in an anti-clockwise motion
• Stir mixture in a slow but erratic manner for five minutes
• Add Dragon Liver and let simmer for a further five minutes without touching the mixture

This potion has two main effects, the first being its intended use, and the second, an unpleasant consequence of misuse. Chiefly, the Bulgeye Potion is meant to be used in the gathering of eye-related potion ingredients. The head of a dead animal (newt, eel - etc) is carefully dipped into the potion and its eyes cleanly pop out, negating the need for digging around inside of the skull with an instrument. It is not meant to be used internally. Ingestion causes the drinker's eyes to become irritated and bulge until the effects wear off. Gloves should be worn in making this potion. If brewed correctly, the potion should be a bright emerald green.

• Place a copper cauldron over a high flame
• Exercise care in this next step: Pour Onion Juice into cauldron. The heat may cause the liquid to spit before settling
• Once settled, add both Eel Eyes and Black Beetle Eyes to juice and stir seven times clockwise
• With tweezers, place Poison Ivy Leaves into the mixture, one at a time
• Stir anti-clockwise seven more times and immediately remove from the flame to allow the potion to rest
• Once cooled to room temperature, the mixture should turn bright emerald green

• Place Nettle Leaves into a small cauldron, pouring just enough water to cover them
• Simmer for about thirty minutes, strain the juice into a bowl and set aside
• In a clean cauldron, melt Beeswax on a low flame, being careful to maintain its liquid state without scorching it
• Add the drop of diluted Bundimun Secretion to the Beeswax, using a stirring stick to combine the mixture
• Now add the freshly stewed Nettle juice to the cauldron, one spoonful at a time, stirring constantly
• Remove from heat and break the Occamy Egg into the cauldron, careful to avoid any shell getting into the mixture
• Stir smoothly to ensure that the egg does not curdle and ruin the potion on this last step

The Bundimun is a magical creature found worldwide. It is a multi-eyed fungus that lives on dirt, reeks of decay and tends to be green in colour. If left unchecked, the acidic secretions of this fungus can destroy an entire house. Sometimes called Bundimun Ooze, Bundimun Secretion is used as a potion ingredient when cleaned and diluted. Although it has other uses, it is most commonly seen as an ingredient used in magical cleaning products.

• Collect secretion (or ooze) from a Bundimun colony with extreme caution, wearing protection
• Pour Secretion into an iron cauldron, adding an equal amount of water
• Simmer over a fire for about an hour, carefully adding small amounts of water whenever the mixture appears to thicken

A soothing, healing balm made chiefly of the Bitterroot Plant that is fairly simple to make.

• Pour Flobberworm Mucus into cauldron and simmer for ten minutes

• Peel the outer layers of the Bitterroot roots to the red core and pulverize with mortar and pestle
• Add pulverized roots to the cauldron

That alone should give some indication of the potency of this particular fungus. It is a common poison base due to the fact that Death Caps have a deceptively pleasant flavor, which can hide the insidious nature of the drink.

• Pour Water into an iron cauldron and bring to a rolling boil

Dragon Poison - depending on the species from which it was extracted - can cause a gamut of horrific symptoms ranging from paralysis to writhing pain and caustic burns. If not treated in a timely fashion, the victim is likely to succumb to death. Even then, treatment is no guarantee of recovery. There are no practical or useful applications for this poison, and it is considered a dangerous black market item by the Ministry. As such, creation, possession and peddling of this item will be treated as a crime.

Method I
• Approach young dragon, or hatchling - the younger the better - wearing dragon hide gloves. Subdue the animal and force the mouth open, hooking the upper jaw over the edge of the flask. Only a few drops of venom can be harvested from any given animal by this method. It is slow, laborious, and dangerous to both the animal and handler.

Method II
• Subdue an adult dragon by whatever means necessary and collect venom in a way similar to Method I; however, a strong iron cauldron must be used for the collecting process. Again, this is a dangerous process to both the animal and handler, and this particular process requires help from one or more partners.

Method III
• The dirtiest and most despicable method, by far. Kill a dragon, cut through the hide with an iron knife and remove the venom glands of the animal. Squeeze the poison into a waiting flask.

This is an extremely powerful sleeping draught that sends the drinker into a death-like slumber, similar to suspended animation. It is a dangerous potion, and its effects can last indefinitely. Only execute with maximum care and precaution.

• Crush the Sopophorous Bean with a silver knife.
• Pour water into beaker and add African sea salt. Set the beaker aside after all the water has been added. Be very careful not to shake or move the beaker now. Leave the water and salt mixture to rest for five minutes.
• Slowly pour mixture into the cauldron.
• With your left hand use a graduated cylinder to obtain 40 fl.oz. of essence of wormwood.
• With your right hand hold the cauldron at a slight angle and pour ten drops (20 fl.oz.) of essence of wormwood.
• Now, with your left hand, hold the cauldron at a slightly different angle and pour another ten drops of wormwood essence.
• Chop three Valerian roots into small, square pieces. After cutting, place in a beaker with water. Leave it to settle for five minutes. Your potion should now be resembling a smooth blackcurrant-coloured liquid.
• Carefully pour the Sopophorous bean's juice into the cauldron.
• Add seven drops of the reduced liquid from the beaker; making sure that there are no traces or fragments of Valerian root.
• Stir the potion ten times clockwise. Your potion should now turn to a light shade of lilac.
• With your right hand stir the potion counterclockwise until the potion turns as clear as water; each stir should take approximately two and a half seconds.
• Slowly put in seven square pieces of Valerian root.
• Stir the potion ten times counterclockwise.
• Add powdered root of asphodel.
• Hold the cauldron with your right hand; with your left hand gently stir the potion ten times counterclockwise and eight times clockwise.
• Leave the potion to settle for two and a half minutes.
• Add one small piece of Valerian root.
• Potion should turn to a pale pink colour. The preparation is now complete.

A potion which relieves anxiety and agitation in the drinker. Despite its name, this is an incredibly complex and finicky potion to brew. Even the slightest misstep in the process will ruin the brew and have drastic consequences. Too much of any ingredient may cause the drinker to slip into an irreversible sleep, for instance.
The directions are detailed and must be followed with exacting precision. Ingredients must be added in the exact order and amounts specified; also, the potion needs to be stirred 7 times, both clockwise and anti-clockwise. Before the addition of the final ingredient, Hellebore, the temperature of the flame must be lowered and the potion allowed to simmer for a full 7 minutes.
If brewed correctly, the potion will emit a silvery vapour, but the possible characteristics of a failed batch are seemingly endless. Reported signs range from green sparks, a sulfurous odour, a dark grey steam, or a cement-like consistency to a dangerous tendency to explode.

It is known to induce excruciating pain, terror, delirium and extreme thirst in the unfortunate drinker. As such, creation, possession and selling of this dangerous potion is strictly illegal.
The potion cannot be penetrated by hand, neutralized, vanished, parted, charmed, transfigured, poured or siphoned away. The only means of removal is to drink the terrible draught. It is rumored that it was created for the sake of protecting an item submerged within as the consequences of trying to retrieve said object are dire.

• Pour Moonseed Poison into an iron cauldron and bring to a rapid boil
• Grind dried Deadlyius Mushrooms into a fine powder and mix with Witch's Mummy Dust
• Add powdered ingredients to boiling cauldron and stir erratically until dissolved
• Remove cauldron from heat and allow to cool undisturbed to lukewarm

This potion has the remarkable effect of causing the drinker to be lucky for a period of time, during which everything they attempt will be successful. Excessive consumption can cause giddiness, recklessness and dangerous overconfidence. It is meant to be used sparingly, as large quantities can be highly toxic. Also, its use is banned in organized competitive and sporting events.
Note: Potion resembles molten gold, with droplets leaping out at intervals like goldfish soaring from their bowl.

A potion used to temporarily alter the colouration of the drinker's hair. Notes: Belladonna (also known as Deadly Nightshade) is highly poisonous and should not be ingested. Also, the Moonstone used in the making of this potion may be reused.
• Place Moonstone in cauldron and add Water
• Boil Water for 5 minutes

A potion that allows the drinker to assume the physical form of someone else. It is an incredibly complicated and challenging potion to brew, and even skilled adult witches and wizards struggle to brew it correctly. Note: Polyjuice cannot be used for a human to assume an animal form. Also, half-breed characters cannot use this potion.
Preparation: Independent of the actual brewing process, Polyjuice potion requires a good deal of preparation before to creation. For example, the Lacewing flies must be stewed for twenty-one days prior, and only Fluxweed picked during the full moon is acceptable. The entire process takes approximately one month to complete.
Part I, Step I:
• Add 3 measures of Fluxweed to the cauldron (must be picked on a full moon)
• Add 2 bundles of Knotgrass to the cauldron
• Stir 3 times, clockwise
• Wave your wand then let potion brew for 80 minutes
Part I, Step II:
• Add 4 Leeches to the cauldron
• Add 2 scoops of Lacewing Flies to the mortar, crush to a fine powder, then add 2 measures of the crushed Lacewings to the cauldron
• Heat for 30 seconds on a low heat
• Wave your wand to complete this stage of the potion
Part II, Step I:
• Add 3 measures of Boomslang Skin to the cauldron
• Add 1 measure of Bicorn Horn to the mortar, crush to a fine powder, then add one measure of the crushed horn to the cauldron

A potion ingredient containing rat spleens. This mixture is used in the preparation of various other potions. There are both a liquid and powdered forms of this ingredient, and both have different uses.

• Pour water into cauldron with raw Rat Spleens and slowly bring to a simmer
• Peel fresh Avocados to acquire skins and place them into the cauldron to simmer for 5 minutes
• Pour Shake Spikes and Gurdyroot mixture into cauldron and bring to a boil
• While maintaining a rolling boil, add Knotgrass to mixture
• Remove from heat and allow boil to cease before adding Kneazle Hair
• Allow cauldron to cool to room temperature

For liquid: Decant in large jars without straining. Material will sink to the bottom and be of no issue.
For powder: Using strainer, discard liquid. Remove Rat Spleens and place into clean, empty cauldron. Heat carefully until all has become crispy and dry. Scrape into mortar and pestle to grind into fine powder. Pour powder into glass bottle for long term storage.

This potion is also known as Bottled Starlight. Contained in a clear vessel, it will emit a bright golden light, and can be used to illuminate the darkness. The shelf-life is fairly limited, however, and even the strongest potion will dim after about one month. If exposed to air and/or spilled, the fluid produces impressive sparks for about 30 seconds before settling down. The object or area upon which it is splashed will glow until the natural effects of the potion wear off.

• Place Troll Blubber in cauldron and start fire

• Raise the flame and pour Heavy Cream into Cauldron
• Squeeze the three puffer fish eyes till they pop and let them fall into the cauldron
• De-leaf Fluxweed plant and add to solution
• Stir in the Bubotuber slime

Veritaserum

Arguably the most potent truth serum in the world, Veritaserum is a substance strictly controlled by the Ministry of Magic. Three drops is said to induce the drinker to spill even the darkest and most well-guarded secrets. There are methods of resistance which vary in degrees of success, such as utilizing its antidote or Occlumency. It is most effective when used on one who is unaware and unprepared to attempt resistance. Despite its efficacy, Veritaserum is not used to coerce confessions of guilt or innocence in trial as it is considered to be unreliable and unfair - much the same as Muggle Polygraph test results.
Only an advanced potion maker should attempt to brew Veritaserum. The process is complex, and the finished product must mature over the course of one full lunar cycle (approximately twenty-eight days.) If done correctly, the potion will be odourless, colourless, and almost indistinguishable from water.

Part I
• On the day of the new moon, pour Standard Potioning Water into an iron cauldron and bring to a simmer
• Pour Vial of Ptolemy into cauldron with an anti-clockwise motion and allow to simmer for ten minutes
• Stir Powdered Moonstone into the mixture one spoonful at a time, dissolving thoroughly
• While the mixture simmers, carefully slice Adder's Fork lengthwise to divide the tongue into halves and drop into cauldron
• Raise heat and bring mixture to a rolling boil
• Drop Jobberknoll Feathers into cauldron, stirring clockwise one time between each feather
• Remove cauldron from flame upon reaching a rolling boil
• Quickly crush Sopophorous Beans with the flat of the blade of a silver knife and add to the mixture
• Allow mixture to cool before straining into a bottle for maturation

Part II
• Leave bottle in a dark, cool undisturbed location for the duration of the cycle
• On the night of the full moon, place bottle in the moonlight to absorb the light

A mixture of three parts Standard Potioning Water and one part Wormwood plant. It is used as a potion ingredient and it also can be used on its own as an antipyretic (febrifuge); anthelmintic; stomachic; tonic; hallucinogenic; and in culinary recipes.

• Coarsely chop one Wormwood Plant, leaves and stems included and place into cauldron

hp.png Soil Testing Solution

This potion allows a gardener or herbologist to test an intended area of soil, checking if it is suitable for planting the desired foliage. When properly completed, this potion naturally starts out a clear, colorless, perfectly smooth fluid; it can be distinguished from water by two subtle characteristics:

  1. It has a significant concave surface tension, so when filling a container to the brim with this potion, it will appear 'indented' in the middle; water has a mild convex surface tension, so it appears to slightly 'dome' in similar circumstances.
  2. It has a pseudoplastic viscosity, so the more sharply it is accelerated, the less the liquid inside shakes around, and movement occurs in 'chunks'.

Gardeners sometimes add a sprig of saffron to turn the initial color an unpleasant yellow and reduce the chance of accidental ingestion, as these properties are hard to notice.

To use the potion, the brewer should place the seed (either in fruit or separated from it) in a second flask with enough soil such that the seed cannot be seen from any angle, then gently drop the combined seed and soil into the potion; if it falls from a great height or with too much speed, the seed and soil may instead bounce off of the fluid surface.

After a few seconds to settle, the brewer should stir the soil, seed, and potion gently with their wand and recite the incantation "Anesidora Chthono".

Over the following half-minute, the fluid will lose its psuedoplastic characteristics, gain a color, and may gain additional features.

Color: If the fluid turns green, the soil is within acceptable acidity levels for the seed. Red or blue respectively indicate that the soil is too acid or too alkaline, with intensity of color indicating the severity of the difference.

Effervescence: If the potion begins to bubble, there is too much salt in the ground for the seed's ideal conditions; intense bubbling indicates growth is not possible.

Illumination: The potion will form sparkling motes of light inside if the soil texture is compatible with the seed. Motes of shadow will form instead if the soil is too coarse, while it will take on a uniform glow if the soil is too fine.

This potion cannot test for compaction or other drainage issues.

A wizard prince once used this potion to awaken a princess who had been given the Draught of Living Death by the Hag Leticia Somnolens. The prince first put some of the potion on his lips and then kissed the princess.

A potion used to sharpen the wits of the drinker, and to aid in concentration. Often used as a study-aid, or else taken before an important exam.

Notes: This potion is very temperature sensitive. Pay especial attention to the fire whilst brewing. To avoid unpleasant taste, place a peppermint leaf on tongue before drinking. Do not add the leaf to the potion itself as it will alter the properties of the finished product.

• Bring Water to a delicate simmer
• Add Ground Scarab Beetles and stir 5 times, clockwise
• Allow to simmer for 5 minutes, undisturbed
• Add Ginger Root without stirring, and allow to simmer for a further 20 minutes
• Let solution cool, and stir 7 times every 3 minutes for a total of 9 minutes, alternating between clockwise and anti-clockwise stirring
• When heat can no longer be felt when a hand is placed above the potion, add Armadillo Bile
• Allow potion to sit for 8 minutes (potion will smell foul)
