Name: | Rubeus Hagrid |
Aliases: | - |
Birthday: | 6 December, 1928 |
Position: | Gryffindor |
Lineage: | Half-giant (half-blood) |
Description
From behind, this young boy could easily be mistaken for a rotund, full-grown man of six feet. Only his youthful facial features give him away as the child he is. Atop his broad shoulders, his plump cheeks round out his broad face, frequently made fuller with a pleasant smile. Though his eyes are dark, there is a glimmer of light in them, glinting like black beetles. His shaggy black hair is even darker, and usually something of a disheveled mess.
Background
Rubeus was born on 6 December, 1928, in the West Country near the Forest of Dean. The giantess Fridwulfa was not the most loving mother, feeling a detachment from her son due to his mixed blood. She treated her husband more like a pet than a spouse, but even that wouldn't last. When Rubeus was three years old, Fridwulfa departed to once again join her giant colony.
Mr. Hagrid was left to raise his son alone. The tiny man does the best he can, despite the challenges of rearing a boy that grew taller than him by age six. The young Rubeus found great amusement from picking up his father and setting him atop a dresser when annoyed with him. But despite these troubles, Rubeus knows he is loved, and the father and son are very close.
Much of their bonding time comes from excursions into the forest together. Mr. Hagrid has taught his son all he knows about the land and the animals that inhabit it. Rubeus soaked it all up like a sponge, finding a kinship with many of the misunderstood beasts of the wilds. It wasn't long before Rubeus was teaching his father a few things about the animals. In time, Rubeus was venturing into the woods alone, and began bringing "friends" home with him. Mr. Hagrid tried to be understanding, but eventually he had to start setting some of his son's pets free, or finding new homes for them. It saddened Rubeus, but he always found a new beastie to replace those that had said goodbye.
Rubeus has not grown up with many human friends. Being a half-giant, most wizards are fearful of him, and his father has considered it best to limit his exposure to Muggles. The few children his age that Rubeus has met have mostly been less than kind. Nevertheless, Rubeus has remained jovial and enthusiastic about making new friends.
