Description
Sirius Black II is a wizard in the winter of his life. The years of concentration and deep thought have etched deep lines into his gaunt features. Standing at nearly six feet tall, he looms over his students and even most wizards. His sharp, narrow eyes observe the world with clinical detachment. His straight black hair is flecked with silver and he keeps it quite short.
Over a crisp, white shirt with a high collar, he wears long professor's robes. Their color is as black as his most ancient and noble house. Though of a simple cut, his robes hint at his considerable wealth. They are made from the most opulent velvet and the gunmetal grey cravat is of the finest silk.
Background
Sirius Black always had one of those minds that operates on a higher level. Though a brilliant wizard, his true strength is in his flawless memory and ability to see connections between disparate concepts that others overlook. Were he not a Black, perhaps he'd have been sorted into Ravenclaw at Hogwarts. But like all of his family, his ambition brought him to the dungeons of Slytherin.
After graduation, Sirius could have done anything. But being somebody that so easily understood the world as it was commonly known, he was desperate for new concepts that would challenge him. For years, he'd had his heart set on the Department of Mysteries. Sure enough, he was quickly recruited into their training program. Naturally, almost nothing is known about Sirius' time as an Unspeakable, save that he eventually rose to the rank of Chief Unspeakable; a position he held until he retired and handed the reins over to Walter St. Cloud.
After his retirement from the Ministry, Sirius mostly kept to himself, performing his own private experiments, and even writing a few books on magical philosophy (each one carefully gone over by the Department of Mysteries to avoid any possible leaked secrets). Other than that, he simply remains a powerful voice in the Black family, often serving as a source of wisdom for his kin, and a mediator for internal disputes.
In 1938, he was appointed as the new Professor of the Study of Ancient Runes, following the ascension of Gervase Flint, the previous holder of that post, to Headmaster. When Flint was ousted in 1939, Sirius became the new Deputy Headmaster.
